NLC Aims to Boost Economic Impact in Central Asian Operations, Says DG Farrukh Shahzad Rao

KARACHI: The Director General of the National Logistics Cell (NLC), Major General Farrukh Shahzad Rao, has expressed NLC’s commitment to strengthening trade ties with Central Asia, Russia, China, and Tashkent. He emphasized the growing demand for Pakistani goods in these regions during his address to industrialists at the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI).

In a meeting attended by prominent figures such as KATI President Faraz-ur-Rehman, Deputy Patron-in-Chief Zubair Chhaya, Senior Vice President Nighat Awan, Vice President Muslim Mohammadi, and Standing Committee Chairman Fawad Sheikh, Major General Farrukh Shahzad Rao highlighted NLC’s pivotal role as Pakistan’s largest logistics organization. He stressed its commitment to aiding businesses in delivering their products to markets in China, Russia, and, notably, Tashkent. The NLC aims to extend its support to KATI manufacturers in this endeavor and appointed KATI Vice President Muslim Mohammadi as the focal point for liaison between the NLC and industrialists.

Furthermore, Major General Farrukh Shahzad Rao revealed that only seven companies currently operate on international routes in Pakistan. Despite their limited number, they manage to transport goods from Sialkot to Kazakhstan in just 16 days, a journey that previously took over two months.

KATI President Faraz-ur-Rehman welcomed NLC’s focus on trade promotion and emphasized the historical difficulties faced by Pakistani products in accessing Central Asian markets due to a lack of banking channels. He expressed optimism that NLC’s efforts to enable Pakistani products to reach Central Asia, Russia, China, and Tashkent within 14 days would boost exports and significantly increase foreign exchange reserves. Faraz-ur-Rehman urged the government to establish banking channels with Russia and other Central Asian countries promptly, facilitating the repatriation of exporters’ earnings. He also acknowledged NLC’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives and their potential for development in the Korangi Industrial Area.

Deputy Patron-in-Chief Zubair Chhaya commended NLC’s advanced technology, logistics, and engineering capabilities and highlighted their positive impact on the Pakistani economy. He expressed enthusiasm for future collaboration and encouraged KATI members to support NLC’s transition from a national company to an international organization.
