Mobilink Microfinance Moves to Expand Digital Banking with Apna Bank Deal
Mobilink Microfinance Bank has announced plans to acquire a majority stake and management control of Apna Microfinance Bank. The intention was disclosed in a notification submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange on March 10 through Arif Habib Limited, which is acting as the manager of the offer.
A subsidiary of VEON and a sister company of Jazz, Mobilink Microfinance Bank currently serves more than 57 million registered users and provides the financial backbone for the JazzCash mobile wallet.
The proposed acquisition represents a strategic consolidation within Pakistan’s microfinance sector. Apna Microfinance Bank reported a loss after tax of PKR 1.65 billion in 2025, and the deal would allow Mobilink Microfinance Bank to integrate the bank’s infrastructure and deposit base to expand its digital banking services.
Under Pakistan’s takeover regulations, Mobilink Microfinance Bank will be required to make a public offer for at least 50% of the remaining voting shares if the transaction proceeds. The deal will also require regulatory approvals from the State Bank of Pakistan and the Competition Commission of Pakistan before it can be finalized.
