Pakistan’s Mobile Imports Down by 71% in the First 9 Months of FY 2023

According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics mobile phone imports in Pakistan have experienced a significant decline of 71% on an annual basis during the first 9 months of the current financial year 2023.

The total volume of mobile phone imports from July to March amounted to $463 million, while in the same period of last year, worth $1.596 billion mobile phones were imported.

Overall telecom imports into the country stood at $744.910 million during July-March 2023 and registered 65.14 percent negative growth compared to the same period of last year, which was $2.137 billion.

On a Year on Year basis, the overall telecom imports registered 86.51 percent negative growth and stood at $36.112 million in March 2023 compared to $267.705 million in March 2022. On an MoM basis, the overall telecom imports registered 44.22 percent negative growth in March 2023 compared to $64.741 million during February 2023.

In the month of March alone, the imports of mobile phones totaled $15 million, while in the same month of the last year it was $184 million which is a staggering 92% less compared to March of the previous. This decline in mobile phone imports is evident in the monthly data as well, with a 55% decrease in March compared to February.

The overall imports of telecoms in Pakistan have also been significantly impacted, with a decline of 65% on an annual basis during the first 9 months of the current financial year.

This decline in mobile phone imports could be attributed to various factors such as changes in government policies, economic challenges, and fluctuations in foreign exchange rates.  The decrease in mobile phone imports could have wide-ranging implications for the mobile phone industry in Pakistan, including potential impacts on consumer choices, availability of the latest mobile phone models, and the overall competitiveness of the market.
