Pakistan Military Tribunal Convicts Ex-Spymaster on Multiple Charges
Former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lt-Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed has been sentenced to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment by a Field General Court Martial in Pakistan, after being found guilty on multiple charges, the military’s media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported. The court martial proceedings were launched on August 12, 2024, under the Pakistan Army Act and lasted 15 months before the verdict was promulgated on December 11, 2025.

Hameed faced four main charges, including engaging in political activities, violating the Official Secrets Act in ways deemed harmful to state interests, misuse of authority and government resources, and causing wrongful loss to individuals. The military stated that the trial complied with all legal provisions, that Hameed was given full rights to legal defence, and that he retains the right to appeal the conviction in the appropriate forum.
Faiz Hameed is a retired three-star general who led the ISI from 2019 to 2021 and held key corps command and intelligence roles over a decades-long military career. The ISPR also noted that Hameed’s alleged involvement in fomenting political agitation and instability with external political elements is being examined in separate proceedings, though details have not been publicly disclosed.
