Federal Government Announces Gas Plant, Hospital, and University for Upper Chitral

CHITRAL (APP – 31 October 2025): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday performed the groundbreaking of the Daanish School in Chitral, reaffirming his government’s commitment to promoting quality education and socio-economic development in the remote areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Addressing the ceremony, the prime minister said the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were brave, patriotic, and had played a key role in the progress and security of Pakistan.

He said his elder brother and former Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had always remained committed to the development of Pakistan, particularly Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Chitral.

Shehbaz Sharif said the Daanish Schools were aimed at providing world-class education to the children of less privileged families in backward areas of the country.

“Daanish Schools are equivalent to Aitchison College in terms of quality education and facilities, but they are meant for the children of common people,” he remarked. “These institutions provide free boarding, education, sports, and all modern facilities.”

He expressed confidence that the standard of education at the Daanish School Chitral would surpass many established institutions in the country.

The prime minister said he had offered full cooperation to the newly elected Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for working together for the province’s development. “I told him that the federal government will extend full support to the KP government for the welfare of the people,” he added.

Highlighting various federal initiatives, he said 100,000 laptops were being distributed among top-performing students across the country under the recently launched PM’s National Laptop Scheme.

The prime minister also announced several new development projects for Chitral, including the establishment of a gas plant, a hospital, and a university in Upper Chitral. He directed that the issue of electricity tariff in Upper Chitral be resolved on priority.

Shehbaz Sharif informed that work on the 153-kilometre Chitral–Shandur Road was already underway and would be completed next year, while the 46-kilometre Chitral–Buni Road would be completed by May. He said the 7-kilometre Lawari Tunnel project had also been completed.

The prime minister reiterated his resolve to eliminate terrorism and promote peace and prosperity across Pakistan. He lauded the armed forces for their sacrifices and professionalism under the leadership of Field Martial and Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir and other services chiefs.

He also acknowledged the historic diplomatic intervention by the U.S. President Donald Trump in helping to defuse tensions between Pakistan and India, saying his efforts prevented a potential escalation.

Earlier, Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Gilgit-Baltistan and SAFRON Engr. Amir Muqam said under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan’s economy was moving in the right direction. He praised the prime minister’s administrative abilities and diplomatic efforts for strengthening the country’s global image.
