DHL to Inject €500 Million into Asia Pacific’s Life Sciences Supply Chain

DHL Group has announced a major strategic investment of EUR 2 billion over the next five years to strengthen its logistics operations in the Life Sciences & Healthcare (LSH) sector globally. Of this, EUR 500 million will be invested in the Asia Pacific region, addressing the area’s rising healthcare demands, growing middle class, and aging population. The investment will help DHL provide faster, more reliable, and patient-focused logistics services, with 50% of funds allocated to the Americas, 25% to Asia Pacific, and 25% to the EMEA region.

A significant portion of this investment will be directed towards developing state-of-the-art infrastructure, expanding cold chain capacity, and enhancing temperature-controlled transportation for sensitive medical shipments like biopharma, clinical trials, and cell & gene therapies. DHL also plans to launch GDP-certified Pharma Hubs, integrate cutting-edge IT systems for real-time supply chain visibility, and improve last-mile delivery solutions. Additionally, the company is consolidating its life sciences logistics services under a new brand, DHL Health Logistics, for a more streamlined and customer-centric experience.

In 2024, DHL generated over EUR 5 billion in life sciences and healthcare logistics revenue, aiming to double that figure by 2030 through these expansions. The company currently operates nearly 600 dedicated logistics sites in over 130 countries. Recent acquisitions like CRYOPDP, a leader in clinical trial and biopharma logistics, have further boosted DHL’s specialized services, ensuring that essential, often life-saving treatments reach patients worldwide with greater efficiency, reliability, and care.
