Sindh Govt Announces Heavy Traffic Fines: Up to Rs200,000 for Violations, New Traffic Magistrate Appointed
The Sindh government has approved a sweeping set of new transport regulations aimed at improving road safety and cracking down on illegal vehicle modifications. In a high-level meeting chaired by Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, it was decided to impose a complete ban on four-seater rickshaws and outlaw the sale — both online and over-the-counter — of tinted windows, police lights, and sirens.

Key changes include making vehicle fitness certification mandatory for all commercial and non-commercial vehicles in the province. To ensure transparency, third-party companies will be hired to conduct fitness inspections, with formal agreements set to be signed soon. Additionally, the installation of trackers and sensors in water tankers and dump trucks has been made compulsory to enhance road safety.

The meeting also introduced strict new penalties for traffic violations. Government vehicles driving against traffic will face a hefty Rs200,000 fine, while one-way violations by four-wheelers will cost Rs100,000. Motorcyclists going the wrong way will be fined Rs25,000, and those without a license will face fines of up to Rs50,000. First-time offenders caught performing stunts like one-wheeling or drifting will be fined Rs100,000, with the amount doubling and tripling for repeat offenses. The government will also mandate surveillance cameras in heavy vehicles and link traffic, transport, and excise databases for streamlined enforcement, alongside appointing a dedicated Traffic Magistrate to handle violations.
