SAU and MUET Team Wins International ICT Honour for Pakistan
Bringing pride to the nation, a joint team of students from Sindh Agriculture University (SAU), Tandojam, and Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET), Jamshoro, secured third place at the prestigious Huawei Global ICT Competition 2025 held in Shenzhen, China.
The annual tech event saw participation from over 210,000 students and instructors representing more than 2,000 universities across 100+ countries. Following tough national and regional rounds, only 179 teams from 48 nations made it to the global finals.

Representing Pakistan in the Network Track category, the team comprised Muhammad Ishaque from SAU’s Information Technology Centre and Tahseen Ahmed from MUET. Under the mentorship of Mr. Suhrab Thaheem, the team had previously bagged second place in the Middle East regional finals before competing on the global stage.

The final awards ceremony in Shenzhen officially announced Pakistan’s third-place victory, marking a proud moment for the country’s academic and ICT communities.

Vice Chancellor of SAU, Dr. Altaf Ali Siyal, congratulated the students and mentors, describing the achievement as a “national honour.” He extended special recognition to team mentor Mr. Thaheem and Dr. Mir Sajjad Talpur, Director of SAU’s Information Technology Centre, for their guidance and support.
“This global recognition reflects the creativity, skill, and innovation of our youth,” Dr. Siyal said. “As the world rapidly embraces digital transformation, the demand for professionals skilled in areas like AI, big data, and cybersecurity is increasing — and our students are demonstrating that they are prepared to lead.”

He also emphasized the importance of international competitions like Huawei’s ICT event in bridging global skills gaps, providing hands-on training, and fostering strong partnerships between academia and the tech industry.
The 9th edition of the Huawei ICT Competition also introduced new categories such as ‘Women in Tech’ and ‘Green Development Awards’, highlighting the growing emphasis on diversity, sustainability, and inclusivity in global technology innovation.
