Vatican Confirms Pope Francis’ Death After Prolonged Illness
Pope Francis, known for his humility and efforts to connect with people of diverse backgrounds and faiths, passed away at the age of 88. The Vatican confirmed his death, with Cardinal Kevin Ferrell stating that his life was dedicated to serving the Church and the Lord.
The pontiff had been hospitalized for over five weeks starting February 2025 due to a respiratory tract infection, later revealed to be bilateral pneumonia. His health worsened in March, with acute respiratory failure and other complications requiring supplemental oxygen and noninvasive mechanical ventilation.
