Bangladeshi President Orders Release of Khaleda Zia Amid Political Turmoil

Bangladeshi President Mohammed Shahabuddin ordered the release of jailed former prime minister and key opposition leader Khaleda Zia, following the ousting of her rival, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, by the military. The decision was made during a meeting led by Shahabuddin, which included top military officials and opposition leaders from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat-e-Islami.

Army chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman announced the formation of a caretaker government after Hasina’s resignation, which came after a month of nationwide protests and violent unrest.
