More than 17 people have died in Karachi over the past 24 hours due to sweltering temperatures exceeding 40°C. Rescue officials reported that the deceased, predominantly drug addicts, were unable to withstand the extreme heat. Bodies were recovered from various parts of the city, including Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Landhi, and Federal B Area Karimabad. Authorities urge the public to take necessary precautions and stay hydrated during this intense heatwave.
At least 67 individuals were admitted to Dr. Ruth KM Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi due to high fever on Monday, with 18 showing symptoms of heatstroke. Dr. Nizam Shaikh, in-charge of the heat stroke ward, emphasized the importance of drinking more water and avoiding unnecessary outdoor activities. The heatwave has also affected Lahore, where temperatures reached 43.3°C, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicting similar weather conditions for the next 24 hours.
The PMD has warned that the intense heatwave will continue in most parts of Pakistan, with temperatures in Sindh expected to soar up to 47°C. Karachi could see temperatures feeling as high as 52°C. Several cities in Punjab and Sindh, including Jacobabad and Sukkur, are forecasted to experience extreme heat. Despite the intense daytime temperatures, there is a possibility of rain in the evening or night in various parts of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
