Despite an overall rise in Pakistan’s textile and clothing exports in the first half of 2023-24, non-textile value products experienced a contraction. Notably, the export of leather garments decreased by 9.71%, including leather garments and gloves, while raw leather exports fell by 23.17% in the July-December period. Additionally, exports of carpets and rugs declined by 21.61%, and sports goods, mainly footballs, saw a 2.35% decrease.
On the positive side, engineering goods’ exports increased by 3.12%, and jewelry exports surged by 46.53%, followed by a 30.09% rise in gur and gur products. However, the export of gems declined by 26.52%, furniture by 44.14%, molasses by 73.86%, and handicrafts by 53.03%. Cement exports, contrary to a previous slump, jumped by 58.77% in 6MFY24.

While the export of value-added products witnessed a continued downward trend, food product exports showed robust growth, impacting essential commodities such as beef, chicken, and rice. The export proceeds from the non-textile sector had been stagnant since the beginning of FY24.
