Manila:- The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) recently announced substantial progress in the Philippines’ efforts to combat drug-related crimes. According to a national police report, a total of 56,495 individuals involved in drug-related activities were apprehended in 2023. Additionally, law enforcement successfully confiscated illegal drugs with a street value exceeding 10.41 billion pesos, equivalent to more than 187 million U.S. dollars.
These remarkable achievements highlight the government’s steadfast commitment to addressing the pervasive issue of illicit drugs. The PCO attributes the success in the anti-illegal drugs campaign to the administration’s innovative approach, emphasizing rehabilitation, reintegration, and preventive education programs, particularly focusing on the youth. The government aims to break the cycle of addiction and create a safer, drug-free society by addressing drug dependence at its roots.

Throughout the year, law enforcement agencies conducted over 44,000 anti-illegal drug operations, dismantling drug networks, disrupting the supply chain, and bringing offenders to justice. These efforts send a clear message that drug-related activities will not be tolerated in the Philippines.
Despite these achievements, challenges persist in the fight against illicit drug use and trafficking, posing threats to public health, safety, and community well-being. President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos’s administration has set an ambitious goal of achieving 100% drug-free villages by 2028. To realize this vision, a multi-faceted approach is crucial, encompassing law enforcement measures, comprehensive rehabilitation programs, and preventive initiatives.
