Pakistan Customs seized 15,465 mobile phones valued at Rs. 446 million near the Dehi area of Khunjerab Pass, thwarting a smuggling attempt from China. The confiscated items included 8,300 smartphones and 7,100 bar phones, along with non-duty-paid goods, from brands like iPhone, Oppo, Vivo, and OnePlus. The smuggling was part of an operation to illegally transport these devices through the Khunjerab Pass border.

Acting on intelligence, Customs officials intercepted a truck (registration number GLTE-1257) at the Karakoram Highway near Dehi, after it crossed into Pakistan. The driver abandoned the vehicle, claiming mechanical issues, and fled the scene. Local sources informed the authorities about the truck’s suspicious cargo, leading them to take action.

The truck was relocated to the Sost Dry Port for safekeeping, where officials found the vast collection of smuggled phones and goods. Since no one came forward to claim the truck or its contents, Pakistan Customs issued a notice requiring the owner to present documents within 15 days to the Customs Office.

This incident highlights the ongoing efforts by Pakistan Customs to combat smuggling activities at key border points like Khunjerab Pass and protect the country from the influx of illegal goods.
