Wasim Akram Calls for Major Overhaul of Pakistan Cricket Team After T20 World Cup Defeat to India

Former Pakistani pacer Wasim Akram has demanded the removal of underperforming players from the team following Pakistan’s defeat by India in the T20 World Cup. Akram criticized the lack of communication among team members, emphasizing that players who don’t cooperate should be benched. He also highlighted the team’s inability to chase down a modest target of 120, calling it their second consecutive failure in the tournament.

“There are players who don’t want to talk to each other. This is international cricket, and you play for your country. Make these players sit at home.”

Taking a dig at Pakistan Cricket Team (PCT) Akram said:

Ab humare liye World Cup ka safar bohot mushkil hogaya. Babar Azam

Akram singled out Mohammad Rizwan for his poor decision-making, noting his reckless big shot against Bumrah, which led to a crucial dismissal. He argued that despite years of experience, Rizwan and other players lacked game awareness and failed to understand the gravity of their performances. Akram stressed that the players’ complacency, assuming coaches would be blamed while they remained unscathed, must be addressed by overhauling the team while retaining the coaching staff.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi echoed Akram’s sentiments, indicating that the national team would undergo significant changes. He acknowledged the poor performance against India as a low point for Pakistani cricket and emphasized the need for a major overhaul to prepare for the Champions Trophy. Naqvi mentioned that new talent waiting on the sidelines would be given a chance, signaling an imminent transformation within the team.
