20 dead after bus falls into ravine in Gilgit Baltistan’s Diamer
A devastating accident occurred in the Yashokhal area of Diamer district, Gilgit Baltistan, when a passenger bus veered off a narrow mountain road, plunging into a ravine. The incident, which took place early Friday morning around 5:30 am, resulted in the loss of at least 20 lives, with 21 others sustaining injuries. The bus, en route from Rawalpindi to Gilgit, was carrying 38 passengers at the time of the accident.

Rescue teams swiftly responded to the scene, initiating a rescue operation to retrieve the injured and the deceased. The injured individuals, including three women, were rushed to a hospital in Chilas. While the condition of five passengers is critical, two have been transferred to Gilgit city for further treatment. The rescue operation, which included assistance from army helicopters, has now been successfully completed.
In the wake of the tragedy, Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and Gilgit Baltistan Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan expressed their deep condolences and directed authorities to provide all necessary medical assistance to the injured. Emergency measures have been implemented at Chilas hospital to manage the influx of patients, as the community comes to terms with the heartbreaking loss.
