Sharjah (NNI): Sharjah police arrested a beggar who collected 14,000 dirhams (approximately 1 million Pakistani rupees) in just three days. According to foreign media, a local citizen reported to the police that an individual was begging outside a mosque, claiming to be facing financial difficulties. Upon arrival, police verified the individual’s identification details and discovered that he was residing in the country illegally.

Brigadier General Omar Al-Ghazal Al-Shamsi, head of the special team monitoring beggars and street vendors, stated that such actions can lead to security and social issues. He warned the public that beggars often exploit feelings of sympathy to accumulate large amounts of money illegally. Sharjah Police have launched a campaign titled “Begging is a crime, giving is a responsibility,” which has been active since the start of Ramadan.

As part of the initiative, teams of plainclothes and security personnel have been deployed to curb the trend of begging. Authorities have urged citizens not to give money to beggars and to report any suspicious activity to the police helpline at 80040 or call center 901.
