Saudi Arabia has banned men from entering ladies tailoring shops
The conditions introduced by the Saudi Ministry of Local Government and Rural Affairs for ladies tailoring shops in 2024 prohibit men from working in and entering women’s tailoring shops. According to the Saudi news agency, on its platform survey, the Ministry of Local Government has asked the public for opinions regarding the conditions of ladies tailoring shops. It is necessary to obtain licenses and approvals from various ministries to operate tailoring shops.

According to the new regulations women can work in tailoring shops, the area of sewing space should not exceed 200 sq m. Entry into tailoring shops should not be allowed except for maintenance and cleaning which may be done after the shop is vacated or work is over. Tailoring shops should be designed in such a way that the privacy of client ladies and working women is not affected. A reception and display space should also be allocated at the entrance to the shop. In addition to a license from the municipality, commercial and civil defense approvals are also mandatory for a tailoring shop.
