Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has banned police officers’ use of social media platforms, such as TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram, following viral videos of officers and female personnel displaying inappropriate behavior in uniform. The move aims to ensure professionalism and discipline within the police force by restricting social media use during official hours. The Punjab government stressed that social media misuse undermines the integrity of the police.

To enforce the ban, the Inspector General (IG) of Punjab Police has introduced a comprehensive social media policy, outlining strict guidelines on acceptable online behavior. Police officers are prohibited from uploading content in uniform, and any social media activity must receive pre-approval from District Police Officers (DPO) or unit heads. Violators will face strict departmental actions as part of the policy.

Furthermore, police officers are forbidden from sharing personal, political, or religious views on social media. All official communication will be managed by DPOs or unit heads, and private individuals are barred from using police vehicles or offices for online activities. Regional Police Officers (RPOs) are responsible for ensuring these guidelines are strictly followed, safeguarding the professional conduct of the force.
