Chitral Residents Demand Daily PIA Flights, Criticize Weekly Schedule
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is set to resume flights from Islamabad to Chitral after a three-year hiatus, with the first ATR-72 flight scheduled to land at Chitral airport on April 5 at 10 AM. The flight will operate on a weekly basis and return to Islamabad two hours after landing. This limited resumption comes after prolonged suspension, with expectations that it could help reconnect Chitral with the rest of the country.

However, Chitral’s residents have voiced dissatisfaction over the decision to operate only one flight per week, citing increasing travel demand. They have urged PIA to introduce daily flights, highlighting the inconvenience caused by limited connectivity. Former MNA Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali criticized the airline’s approach, stating that PIA management is ignoring the region’s needs and ground realities.

He recalled that the route was operational on a daily basis until 2010 but declined when flights were reduced to four per week. Expressing skepticism about the sustainability of the new schedule, he warned that uncertainty over flight operations would deter passengers. He also mentioned raising the issue multiple times in parliament, emphasizing the necessity of daily flights from Islamabad and Peshawar to meet public demand.
