Pakistan’s Rice Exports Hit Record $3.89 Billion, Boosting Economy

Pakistan has achieved a record $3.89 billion in rice exports for the July 2023-June 2024 period, marking a major milestone for the country’s agriculture sector. This was attributed to favorable weather conditions and the availability of essential farm inputs. Shehzad Ali Malik, founder of the Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP), announced the news alongside the election of Malik Faisal Jahangir as the new REAP chairman.

During this period, Pakistan exported over 5.8 million tonnes of Basmati and non-Basmati rice varieties. This notable achievement is expected to provide a significant boost to Pakistan’s economy, underlining the importance of the rice export sector.

Under the leadership of newly elected chairman Jahangir, REAP aims to further increase rice exports to $5 billion annually. The focus will be on enhancing seed research and promoting good agricultural practices, ensuring that Pakistan remains competitive in the global rice market.
