Pakistan Successfully Produces and Deploys 40 Freight Wagons Using Chinese Technologies
Marking a Milestone in Local Manufacturing of Freight Wagons
Pakistan has successfully produced and deployed 40 freight wagons using Chinese technologies, marking a significant milestone in local manufacturing. This achievement is the result of a collaboration with Inner Mongolia First Machinery Group Co., Ltd., facilitated through technology transfer from its subsidiary, Baotou Beifang Chuangye Co., Ltd. The locally produced wagons have garnered praise for their excellent performance and quality, showcasing Pakistan’s growing capabilities in railway manufacturing.
Pakistan’s Locally Produced Freight Wagons Mark a New Era in Railway Development
The project highlights a shift towards local production, reducing dependence on imports and conserving foreign exchange. It also represents the expansion of Chinese companies’ international trade from merely exporting products to providing products and services abroad. An official from Lahore Railway Station emphasized that the new wagons, designed for efficient container transport, will enhance the speed of freight trains to 100 km per hour, significantly reducing delays in commercial goods transportation.
The wagons are part of an 820-wagon project signed between Beifang Chuangye and Pakistan Railways in December 2021, which includes high-capacity wagons and brake vans. By 2023, 200 vehicles have been delivered, with the final batch expected to arrive from Tianjin port in June 2024. The production and delivery of SKD and CKD vehicles in Pakistan are set to be completed within the year.

This project not only enhances Pakistan’s railway efficiency but also strengthens its industrial base through the successful adoption and implementation of advanced manufacturing technologies.
