Pakistan Railways (PR) announced a 10% tariff hike for passengers and freight services

Pakistan Railways (PR) has announced a 10% tariff hike for all mail/express, intercity, shuttle, passenger trains, and saloons, from August 17, 2023, as a result of a rise in fuel prices.

According to a notification from the PR, the cost of every coach on passenger trains and shuttle trains has increased. From August 17, the revised prices will be in effect.

Following the recommendations of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), the government has increased the price of petroleum products by up to Rs 20 per litre in response to rising global oil prices. High-speed diesel (HSD) has increased by Rs20 per litre while gasoline has increased by Rs17.50 per litre.

“Over the past two weeks, petroleum prices have risen on the global market. As a result, consumer prices in Pakistan are also being revised, according to a statement from the Finance Division late Tuesday.

According to the notification, Pakistan Railways’ Director of IT will be in charge of carrying out the fare increase for reservations made in advance on all mail, express, and intercity trains.

The increased pricing will be reflected in the reservation systems for travelers who intend to make travel arrangements. On Pakistan Railways’ official website, the public will have access to the new fare table that outlines the modifications.

Furthermore, it has been mandated that this new fare structure be implemented and made known to passengers by all booking and reservation offices, as well as by railway stations.
