NADRA revealed it blocked 71,459 Computerised National Identity Cards

Pakistan’s National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) dismissed Director General Zulfiqar Ahmed after an investigation confirmed his degrees were forged. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) found discrepancies in Ahmed’s MBA and BBA degrees, including incorrect signatures and outdated institution names. The Islamabad High Court upheld HEC’s decision, leading to Ahmed’s dismissal after failing to provide a satisfactory explanation.

Separately, NADRA revealed it blocked 71,459 Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) over five years, with Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa reporting the highest number at 25,981, followed by Balochistan with 20,583. While 44,460 CNICs were later unblocked after verification, 13,618 remain under investigation. The Sindh government has requested an amendment to the Citizenship Act to address challenges citizens face during the verification process.
