Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the leader of Jamiat Ulema Islam (JUI), reflected on the changing global landscape during his speech at the Mufti Mahmood conference. He pointed out that four decades ago, there was a significant ideological conflict between the Western and Eastern worlds. However, he emphasized that today’s world is markedly different, having undergone substantial transformations.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman went on to address pressing international issues. He decried the oppression faced by the Palestinians at the hands of Israel and drew a stark comparison, noting that the extent of destruction in Gaza over a single day often exceeded the entirety of a year’s airstrikes on Afghanistan by the United States.

Earlier there was an ideological conflict between East and West, today the situation is different, Fazlur Rehman

Highlighting the influence of the West, he expressed concerns that the establishment, bureaucracy, and political sphere in Pakistan are influenced and pressured by Western powers. He also acknowledged the significance of democracy, a principle that the United States advocates.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman stressed the need to reaffirm Pakistan’s founding ideology, asserting that the nation’s own constitution and laws are insufficient to preserve this vision. He paid tribute to Mufti Mehmood for his recognition of religious and spiritual politics, underlining the importance of this dimension.

Addressing the issue of alleged electoral manipulation, he claimed that international agendas were imposed through rigging. He warned that if anyone tried to exclude his party from parliament, they would respond in kind.

In closing, Maulana Fazlur Rehman reaffirmed his commitment to reasonable politics, emphasizing a preference for non-coercive and non-rigged methods. He emphasized the pivotal role of the constitution in guiding Pakistan’s path forward and highlighted the importance of bolstering the country’s economic standing. Maulana Fazlur Rehman noted that during the PTI government’s tenure, Pakistan had transitioned from 24th to 47th place in terms of development, underscoring the urgency of strengthening the nation’s economic foundations.
