In a powerful act of solidarity, American singer-songwriter Kehlani released a new song titled “Next 2 U,” dedicated to those suffering in Palestine, especially following Israel’s escalated violence after October 7. Announcing this via Instagram, Kehlani quoted author-activist Toni Cade Bambara: “The role of the artist is to make the revolution irresistible.” The music video features Kehlani and her dancers performing against the backdrop of the Palestinian flag, wearing Keffiyeh suits.

Kehlani shared her apprehensions about releasing music during global crises, admitting her struggle with what is appropriate to release during such historical tragedies. She emphasized the importance of art in revolution, stating that a love song can also be a protector’s song. Although the song’s lyrics do not directly address Palestine, the video includes powerful imagery of Palestinian resistance and acknowledges the children killed by Israeli forces, urging viewers to read the long list of names at their own pace.

The singer revealed that her creative partner, Sally Sujin Oh, prioritized hiring Palestinians on set for the music video, ensuring everyone felt safe. She also thanked her stylist for designing the Keffiyeh suits. Kehlani described the project as a reflection of pain, anger, and support, highlighting the intersection of gentleness and fierceness, and the beauty in radical actions.

Kehlani also announced merchandise for the song, with proceeds going to Palestinian, Congolese, and Sudanese families. Her outspoken stance on the Palestinian issue gained widespread recognition online, with many praising her for using her platform to support the cause. She criticized fellow celebrities for their silence on global issues and called out the insufficiency of symbolic actions like wearing ceasefire pins. Her advocacy resonated deeply, particularly when Palestinian children in Rafah expressed gratitude for her support following a deadly assault by Israeli forces.
