Tehran (NNI) – Iranian pop singer Amir Hossein, popularly known as Tatalo, has been sentenced to death for insulting the Prophet Muhammad, as reported by Arab media. The 37-year-old singer, who was extradited from Turkey to Iran last year, was initially sentenced to five years in prison for blasphemy. However, the court reopened the case, and upon further investigation, the charges of blaspheming the Prophet Muhammad were proven. In response to the prosecutor’s objection to the initial sentence, the court handed down the death penalty.

Amir Hossein had been living in Istanbul since 2018 before being arrested by Turkish authorities in December 2023 at Iran’s request. In addition to the latest ruling, the singer had previously been sentenced to 10 years in prison for charges including promoting prostitution, publishing obscene content, and spreading propaganda against the Islamic Republic. This case has drawn significant attention due to its implications on freedom of expression and the enforcement of blasphemy laws.
