The Indian flag, initially missing at Karachi’s National Stadium ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy, was spotted on Wednesday as the tournament kicked off with the Pakistan vs. New Zealand match. Controversy erupted when the absence of the Indian flag was noticed before the tournament began. Although Pakistan is the official host, India’s matches are being held in Dubai. The absence of the Indian tricolor among the flags of the other seven participating teams sparked negative reactions from cricket fans, who criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

However, on Wednesday, the Indian flag was seen along with the other teams’ flags as PCB corrected their oversight. On Tuesday, the board had downplayed the controversy, explaining that only the flags of the countries playing in Pakistan were raised at the stadiums. A PCB source stated to IANS, “As you know, India is not coming to Pakistan to play its matches during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025; the National Stadium in Karachi, Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, and the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore have hoisted flags of countries that are going to play at the said venues.”

The source further added, “The Indian team is going to play its matches in Dubai. Secondly, the Bangladesh team has not yet arrived in Pakistan and will be playing its first match against India in Dubai. Therefore, their flags have not been hoisted, and the other nations that have arrived here and will be playing in Pakistan have their flags at the stadium. Different stadiums in Pakistan are going to host different teams during the Champions Trophy matches, and they’re hoisting their flags to welcome them.”
