In a recent development, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has opted to suspend the membership of Sri Lanka Cricket, citing government interference. The decision, announced in a statement by the ICC, takes immediate effect.
The ICC spokesperson conveyed that the board unanimously agreed during a meeting that Sri Lanka’s cricket affairs violate ICC regulations. Terms and conditions regarding the suspension and its potential termination are expected to be determined in the near future.

The backdrop of this suspension involves Sri Lankan Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe dismissing the Cricket Board due to the national team’s unsatisfactory performance in the ICC One Day World Cup, leading to strained relations. Subsequently, Arjuna Ranatunga, captain of the 1996 World Cup-winning team, assumed interim chairmanship.

However, Shami Salwa, the former president of the cricket board, contested the sports ministry’s decision in court. As a result, the appellate court, after dismissing the Sri Lankan cricket board, halted the implementation of the interim committee.
