Justice Mandokhail Highlights Higher Death Toll from Accidents Compared to Terrorism and Diseases
During a hearing before the constitutional bench of the Supreme Court, Justice Jamal Mandokhail remarked that the number of deaths in accidents surpasses those caused by terrorism or diseases. The Supreme Court’s 5-member constitutional bench heard the case against heavy vehicles and overloading. Lawyer Barrister Zafarullah argued that the main issue lies in the location of vehicle overloading. Without action against these loading sites, control cannot be achieved.

Supreme Court Urges Action Against Overloading and Heavy Vehicles to Prevent Accidents
Justice Mandokhail stated that the number of deaths due to accidents exceeds those caused by terrorism or diseases. He questioned whether the government had data on accident fatalities and emphasized that the core problem is the implementation of laws.
Justice Hasan Azhar commented that roads in Port Qasim, Korangi, and the industrial area have potholes as deep as two feet, causing accidents. The government lawyer informed the court that many laws have been amended to increase fines. Justice Aminuddin Khan mentioned that the court would issue a detailed ruling on this case, which will remain pending. Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar stated that the issue of overloading must be resolved in collaboration with provincial governments and all stakeholders.

Subsequently, the Supreme Court’s 5-member constitutional bench, led by Justice Aminuddin Khan, adjourned the case indefinitely.
