University athletes under the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan showcased impressive athletic talent during the 2023-24 season, securing 233 medals, including 32 gold, 56 silver, and 145 bronze, in various national and international events. This achievement reflects HEC’s commitment to promoting sports within higher education, offering top-tier facilities, skilled coaching, and financial support to deserving athletes. The performance of female athletes was particularly notable, with 17 gold, 25 silver, and 21 bronze medals in national competitions, along with international success.

At the 34th National Games, university athletes earned eight gold, 17 silver, and 93 bronze medals, leading to HEC’s recognition with the Best Turn Out Trophy. The success is attributed to continuous support from the Pakistan University Sports Board (PUSB) and the broader academic community. HEC’s year-round Intervarsity Championships help identify top performers who represent Pakistan at national and international levels, further bolstering the nation’s athletic reputation.
HEC has revised the PUSB Constitution and introduced new sports academies under the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme to nurture young talent. These academies, along with nationwide Talent Hunt drives, provide enhanced opportunities for athletes to grow into professionals, ensuring sports remain a vital part of Pakistan’s higher education landscape.
