In a concerted effort to bolster the nation’s economy, authorities have taken a decisive step against non-custom paid vehicles in Pakistan. Additionally, it has come to light that a significant number of vehicles, estimated at 2 to 3 lakhs, are currently operating without proper registration. This crackdown is expected to inject more than 20 billion rupees into the government’s coffers.

Reliable sources from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and other government agencies have confirmed that the operation targeting non-custom paid vehicles was set in motion following the recent visit of Army Chief General Asim Munir to Peshawar. Subsequently, law enforcement agencies initiated actions to dismantle illegal channels operating within the country and obtain data on these vehicles.

It has been disclosed that if all the vehicles, which have been registered with the respective police stations under various procedures, are regularized by bringing them into the customs framework, the government can anticipate a revenue windfall of approximately 20 billion rupees. During the course of this operation, FBR teams are set to receive support from law enforcement agencies to ensure its effectiveness.
These sources have affirmed that even after accounting for vehicles registered with the police stations until 2018, an additional two to three lakh vehicles entered Pakistan without fulfilling customs obligations. These vehicles are now liable to be seized by the government during the ongoing operation.

As reported by Naji TV, to mitigate losses during the operation, the police are offering two options to owners of the registered vehicles: surrender the vehicle to the government if customs duties remain unpaid or regularize it by paying the specified customs duty. For vehicles brought into Pakistan after 2018 and not yet registered with the police, there are no alternatives other than government seizure.
