Fake Lawyer Arrested Following Unbelievable 26-CasesWin Streak Without Formal Training
A man who posed as a lawyer and purportedly secured victories in 26 legal cases without any formal legal education has been apprehended in Kenya. The individual, operating under the alias Brian Mwenda, is accused of assuming the identity of a legitimate lawyer named Brian Mwenda Ntwiga.

Dubbed a ‘masquerader,’ the imposter achieved an improbable winning streak across various Kenyan courts, despite lacking the necessary legal qualifications. Local media sources have shed light on the audacious feat.
Following public outrage and numerous complaints, the Rapid Action Team of the Nairobi Branch of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) swiftly intervened, arresting the individual responsible. The arrest was prompted by allegations that he gained unauthorized access to the society’s portal, tampering with account details, and falsely claiming to have undergone legal training. The genuine Brian Mwenda Ntwiga became aware of the situation when he encountered difficulties accessing his account, discovering that certain details had been altered.

The LSK issued a statement explaining that Brian Mwenda Ntwiga was admitted to the Bar on August 5, 2022, and had the correct email address captured during the account setup. However, upon attempting to activate his profile for a Practising Certificate in September 2023, he found access to his LSK Portal had been denied.
Investigations revealed that Advocate Brian Mwenda Ntwiga hadn’t applied for a practicing certificate since his admission, being exempted due to employment at the Office of the Attorney General. The LSK’s Nairobi Branch clarified on X (formerly Twitter) that “BRIAN MWENDA NJAGI is not an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.”

Despite outrage, some viewed the imposter with admiration, with Kenya’s Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) praising his success “without traditional qualifications.” Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko, facing his own controversies, expressed support, sharing a video where the imposter pledged innocence.
Kenya’s director of public prosecutions, Renson Mulele Ingonga, instructed an investigation by the Inspector General of the National Police Service, signaling potential prosecution for Mr. Mwenda. Ingonga highlighted the increasing occurrence of unqualified individuals falsely claiming to be Advocates of the High Court of Kenya.
