The procedure was overseen by renowned surgeons from the University of Chicago, including Professor John LaMattina, who had previously visited Pakistan, and Professor John Fung, making his first visit. These experts provided advanced insights on liver transplant trends and techniques to the team, led by Dr. Jehanzaib Haider.

The liver transplant surgery, which began early Wednesday morning, was broadcast live from the operation theater to a seminar hall and Dow University’s official social media platforms. A large audience of aspiring medical students attended the seminar to learn from this landmark event.

During her visit to the seminar hall, Dow University’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jehan Ara Hasan, shared details about the operation. She explained that the 42-year-old patient from Shahdadkot had suffered from chronic Hepatitis B and D, which had severely damaged his liver. His 23-year-old nephew volunteered to donate a portion of his liver, enabling the successful transplant. She also highlighted that Dow University, with support from the Sindh government, has now completed 190 liver transplants.
