BYD’s Futuristic Fang Cheng Bao Super 9 Electric Convertible Concept
At the Fang Cheng Bao Spring Conference, BYD unveiled its latest electric marvels, including two SUVs—the Super 3 (Bao 3) and Bao 8—and the star of the show, the Super 9 electric convertible concept. Designed by Wolfgang Eggert, a veteran of Lamborghini and Audi, the Super 9 concept showcases BYD’s vision for futuristic automotive design.

Fang Cheng Bao, BYD’s high-end electric SUV brand, is already known for its Bao 5 (Leopard 5) and has previously teased the Bao 3 and Bao 8. However, the Super 9 convertible, with its sleek two-seater design and scissor doors, was a surprise highlight. Featuring integrated carbon fiber seats, a dual-cockpit, and a racing-inspired steering wheel, the car aims to blend luxury with a sporty edge. Its exterior boasts a rear spoiler, Fang Cheng Bao logo-shaped tail lights, and the number “30,” celebrating BYD’s 30th anniversary. The Super 9 is expected to launch as a fully electric BEV under the name Bao 9.
Fang Cheng Bao represents BYD’s latest foray into the high-end EV market, positioned between its premium YangWang and Denza subbrands. Since its launch last summer, the brand has expanded with 70 direct-operated stores across China, aiming for 150 by 2024. This innovative sales strategy replaces traditional dealerships, as BYD takes over premium showrooms from legacy brands like BMW and Aston Martin. The Super 9 concept underscores BYD’s ambition to redefine the electric vehicle landscape.
