Karachi: Former Pakistan cricket team captain Babar Azam has asked fans and media to refrain from calling him “King,” stating that his performance will ultimately determine his legacy. “Stop calling me King,” Azam said informally to journalists after the One Day International between Pakistan and South Africa at the National Stadium Karachi. “I am not a king yet. At the end of my career, we will know who is the king.”

Azam emphasized that he is focused on his new role within the team and that past achievements are behind him. “What I have done before is in the past,” he explained. “Currently, I am focused on a new role within the team. If I continue with my previous performance, I will not be able to perform further.” He acknowledged the challenges of opening the batting, a new position for him, and expressed his determination to contribute to the team’s victories.

He spoke positively about the performances of Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha, noting that big totals boost confidence. Azam also addressed his own batting, saying, “When I bat, I think that I have to score well, unfortunately, I am not able to finish.” He added that assessing the game and the pitch is a crucial part of his responsibility to the team.
