Salwan Momika (malghoon), Iraqi Man Who Sparked Protests Over Quran Burning, Shot Dead In Sweden
Salwan Momika, the Iraqi refugee who repeatedly burned the Quran in Sweden last year, has been killed in a shooting, prompting a police investigation and raising concerns about foreign involvement. Momika, 38, was reportedly shot in a house in Sodertalje near Stockholm, and five arrests have been made in connection with the murder. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson stated that security services are deeply involved in the investigation due to the possibility of foreign influence. The killing occurred hours before a Swedish court was due to rule on charges against Momika related to his Quran burnings.

The shooting death of Momika has been condemned by Swedish officials, with Vice Prime Minister Ebba Busch calling it a threat to the country’s democracy and vowing a strong response. The Stockholm District Court, which was scheduled to deliver its verdict on Momika and co-defendant Salwan Najem on charges of “agitation against an ethnic or national group,” has postponed the ruling to February 3rd due to Momika’s death.

Momika and Najem were charged in August with desecrating the Quran, including burning it and making derogatory remarks about Muslims, on one occasion outside a Stockholm mosque.
