Kuwait Implements Strict New Regulations on Energy Drinks
​Kuwait has introduced sweeping restrictions on the sale and consumption of energy drinks following a ministerial decision by the Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmed Abdulwahab Al Awadhi. The new regulations, reported by Al Qabas, aim to curb health risks by strictly controlling how and where these products are accessed.
​Key Restrictions and Requirements:
- ​Age Limit: Sale is strictly prohibited to anyone under the age of 18.
- ​Consumption & Content Caps: Individual consumption is limited to two cans per day. Furthermore, caffeine content must not exceed 80mg per 250ml.
- ​Banned Locations: Energy drinks are now banned in all public and private educational institutions (schools and universities), government buildings, and vending machines.
- ​Retail & Food Service Ban: The drinks can no longer be sold in restaurants, cafés, grocery stores, or food trucks. Online ordering and delivery services are also prohibited from carrying them.
- ​Authorized Outlets: Sales are now restricted exclusively to cooperative societies and parallel markets, where they must be displayed in specific designated areas.
- ​Marketing Controls: A total ban has been placed on all commercial advertising and sponsorships. Additionally, all packaging must now feature clear, prominent health warnings.
