Pakistan Football Star Mariam Mahmood Honored for Excellence at Global Sports Ceremony
Pakistan’s rising football star Mariam Mahmood has been honored as Female Elite Sports Athlete of the Year at the Muslim Sports Awards 2025, marking a significant milestone for women’s football in the country.
The award ceremony took place at Elland Road Stadium, the home ground of Premier League side Leeds United. The annual event recognizes excellence across the Muslim sporting community, celebrating achievements from grassroots levels to elite professional sport, along with the individuals and organizations supporting athletes’ journeys.

While receiving the award, Mariam emphasized the importance of representation, stating that she hopes her journey inspires young girls who see themselves reflected in her story to believe that success in sport is within their reach. Born in England, Mariam Mahmood represents Pakistan at the international level and plays as a forward for the national women’s football team. She has featured in several international tournaments, including appearances at the SAFF Women’s Championship.
Earlier this year, she also competed for Pakistan in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers, where she scored her first international goals and played a key role in Pakistan’s 2–1 victory over Kyrgyzstan.
Known for her sharp finishing and attacking presence, Mariam Mahmood is widely regarded as part of a new generation of footballers helping revive women’s football in Pakistan by combining international exposure with a strong commitment to the national team.
