In a shocking case from Oklahoma, a woman who was kidnapped as a child and held captive for nearly 20 years has finally received justice. Henri Michelle Piette, 63, was found guilty of kidnapping his stepdaughter, Rosalynn McGinnis, when she was just 11 or 12 years old. During her captivity, he repeatedly abused her and fathered nine children.
McGinnis managed to escape in 2016 after befriending a couple in Mexico, fleeing with eight of her children while her eldest had already escaped earlier. Authorities say Piette kept moving between the U.S. and Mexico under aliases, making it difficult to locate him.
Now 34 and living safely with her children, McGinnis says she is relieved that Piette has been captured and convicted. Prosecutors praised her bravery, stating that her courage ended “two decades of terror.” Piette awaits sentencing.
