Sugar Prices Surge Across Pakistan Despite Crackdown Claims
Despite repeated claims and promises, authorities have failed to rein in the sugar mafia, as the price of sugar continues to surge across Pakistan. Over the past month, sugar prices have risen by Rs. 15 to Rs. 20 per kilogram in various cities.

According to private news channel Samaa TV:
- In Lahore, sugar now costs Rs. 200/kg, up from Rs. 179/kg last month.
- In Rawalpindi, the price has reached Rs. 190/kg, compared to Rs. 185/kg previously.
- In Islamabad, sugar is selling between Rs. 185–190/kg, up from Rs. 180/kg.
- In Peshawar, the rate has climbed to Rs. 195/kg, from Rs. 190/kg.
- In Karachi, sugar is priced between Rs. 195–200/kg, previously available at Rs. 190/kg.
- In Quetta, the price has also surged to Rs. 195–200/kg, up from Rs. 190/kg.
- In Faisalabad, sugar is selling between Rs. 190–200/kg, compared to Rs. 185/kg last month.
- In Multan, the price has hit Rs. 200/kg, rising from Rs. 185/kg.
The persistent rise in sugar prices highlights the ineffectiveness of regulatory measures and the growing burden on consumers nationwide.
