Ethiopian Envoy Seeks to Expand Flights Beyond Karachi in Islamabad Talks
The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan have agreed to enhance their collaboration in defence and aviation to deepen bilateral relations. This understanding was reached during a meeting held in Islamabad on Monday between Ethiopia’s Special Envoy and Ambassador Extraordinary, Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, and Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Defence, Khawaja Muhammad Asif.

During the discussion, Ambassador Abdula briefed Minister Asif on the recent inauguration of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). He stressed that the project was constructed based on the principle of equitable water use, aiming to foster regional integration without causing significant harm to neighboring nations. The Ambassador also highlighted Ethiopia’s significant progress in the aviation sector and expressed a strong desire to expand flight destinations to Pakistan beyond the currently operating Karachi route.
Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif praised the visionary leadership of Ethiopian Prime Minister H.E. Dr. Abiy Ahmed for driving transformative socio-economic development and prosperity. The Minister also commended Ethiopia’s vital role in promoting peace, security, and stability in the Horn of Africa, reaffirming Pakistan’s steadfast support for these regional efforts.
