Dawn News Reporter’s Suspicious Death Sparks Call for Investigation
The body of Khawar Hussain, a senior reporter for Dawn News in Karachi, was found in his car outside a private hotel on the Hyderabad Road in Sanghar. Police have transferred his body to a hospital and have initiated an investigation, with officials reviewing CCTV footage from the area.

The suspicious nature of his death has prompted a strong response from political leaders. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has taken notice of the incident, directing the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to assign a top officer to the case to determine the exact cause of death. Similarly, Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori expressed deep sorrow over what he termed a “murder,” calling it a great tragedy for journalism and society. Both the governor and Sindh’s Minister for Home Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs, Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, have called for a comprehensive and transparent investigation to bring the culprits to justice.
Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon and Sindh Opposition Leader Ali Khursheedi also offered their condolences, with Memon describing Khawar Hussain as a close associate and professional journalist whose sudden passing is an irreparable loss. All leaders have emphasized the need for a thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding his death.
