Moral Victory: Jordan Forfeits FIBA U19 Match Against Israeli Team
The Jordan U-19 basketball team has withdrawn from its scheduled match against “Israel” in Group C of the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup, currently underway in Switzerland. This decision, approved by the Jordan Basketball Federation’s board of directors following discussions with the team’s technical and administrative staff, resulted in “Israel” being awarded a 20-0 win by default, as confirmed by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA). The match was originally slated for Sunday, June 29.
The Jordan Basketball Federation (JBF) formally requested not to participate in the game, a request that FIBA honored by canceling the match and announcing the default win. This move by the Jordanian team has resonated widely across social media platforms.
Across the Arab world, users and activists have voiced overwhelming support for Jordan’s stance, hailing it as a “moral victory greater than any sporting result” and emphasizing the indivisibility of “the Palestinian cause.”
