Insect-Like Micro Drone by China’s NUDT Designed for Covert Surveillance
China’s National University of Defense Technology (NUDT) has unveiled a groundbreaking mosquito-sized drone engineered for covert battlefield operations, including surveillance and reconnaissance missions. Designed with insect-like flapping wings, the ultra-small device can operate nearly undetected, making it ideal for stealth tasks in densely populated urban areas or complex combat zones.

The drone is equipped with three slender legs for stable perching and integrates advanced miniaturized components, including power systems, sensors, and control circuits, all within a featherlight structure. Despite the immense technical challenges of developing such a compact device, its operational advantages in espionage, urban warfare, and search-and-rescue scenarios could prove game-changing.
Experts believe this next-generation surveillance tool will allow forces to gather critical intelligence and monitor high-risk areas without detection, giving China a strategic edge in modern asymmetric warfare.
