Gwadar Port Handles Major 20,000-Ton Afghan Fertilizer Shipment as Global Trust Grows
Gwadar, Pakistan – Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry announced the successful berthing of the second Afghan Transit Trade vessel at Gwadar Port, marking a key milestone in regional trade. The ship, MV ASL ROSE, carried 20,000 metric tons of Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) fertilizer from Townsville, Australia—following the arrival of MV Beyond 2 in February 2025. The Minister highlighted Gwadar’s growing role as a strategic gateway for landlocked Afghanistan, enabled by streamlined processes like the replacement of bank guarantees with insurance guarantees to expedite cargo clearance.

Chaudhry emphasized that the port’s operational readiness reflects international confidence in Pakistan’s trade infrastructure. He instructed authorities to ensure swift unloading, underscoring Gwadar’s capacity to handle rising transit volumes under the Afghanistan-Pakistan Transit Trade Agreement (APTTA). This development, he said, will reduce costs, enhance trade efficiency, and strengthen regional economic ties—positioning Gwadar as a hub for broader integration across South and Central Asia.
