Commerce and IT Ministries Join Hands to Tackle E-Commerce Challenges with New Policy Framework
Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan together with Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja, on Thursday underscored the significant strides and forthcoming strategies in this rapidly growing industry.
This was urged in a meeting aimed at tackling the burgeoning challenges and opportunities within Pakistan’s eCommerce sector. The session concluded with the announcement of a new joint working group, a collaborative effort between the Commerce and IT Ministries.

This group is tasked with developing detailed recommendations concerning taxation, vendor compliance, and enhancements in digital payment systems. Their insights will be escalated to the Prime Minister’s office for ultimate approval, marking a critical step in refining the regulatory framework governing eCommerce in Pakistan.
Further solidifying the proactive measures being undertaken, Minister Kamal revealed that the much-anticipated eCommerce Policy 2.0 is nearing completion of its internal review. This policy is expected to soon proceed for cabinet endorsement, setting the stage for a more regulated and flourishing online market landscape.
With the eCommerce market in Pakistan having achieved a milestone with a valuation of USD 7.7 billion in 2024, and with an anticipated compound annual growth rate of 17% through 2027, the need for an updated and robust policy framework has never been more pressing. The ministers expressed a deep commitment to creating an inclusive, competitive, and digitally adept trading environment, ensuring that the sector”s rapid expansion is matched with equally dynamic governance and support mechanisms.
