Facial Recognition Deadline Set for Dec 2025, New NADRA Mega Center Planned in Islamabad
According to Dawn News, the government has decided to immediately block all mobile SIM cards registered against expired national identity cards (CNICs). The process will begin with identity cards issued in 2017 or earlier.
An important meeting was held at NADRA Headquarters, chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, where it was directed that the implementation of facial recognition technology be completed by December 31, 2025.

In collaboration with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), SIM cards registered against deceased individuals and cancelled identity cards will also be blocked.
Additionally, NADRA services are being expanded to 44 new tehsils and union councils across the country. Facilities will be made available in all 31 union councils of Islamabad by June 30, 2025.
The Interior Minister also approved the establishment of NADRA regional offices in Multan, Sukkur, and Gwadar.
Moreover, a 10-storey mega NADRA center is under construction in Sector I-8, Islamabad, with completion expected by June 2026.
