PTA Urges SIM Ownership Verification, Blocks Anti-Pakistan Content Online

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a fresh advisory for mobile users, urging them to verify that their SIM cards are registered under their own names. The announcement, made via social media, warns that unauthorised SIM usage can lead to misuse of personal information for criminal activities, fraud, or even acts of terrorism. PTA has provided tools like cnic.sims.pk and SMS service 668 to help users verify and manage the number of SIMs registered under their CNICs.

In a related move, the PTA also took decisive action against the spread of harmful and misleading digital content. The authority announced the blocking of 16 YouTube news channels, 31 YouTube video links, and 32 websites for allegedly promoting anti-Pakistan propaganda. According to PTA, the content aimed to spread deceptive narratives intended to influence public opinion negatively and damage national unity.
PTA stated that these measures were taken in the interest of national security and to protect Pakistan’s digital environment. The authority reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public safety by ensuring compliance with national regulations through systems like DIRBS and proactive digital content monitoring.
