Third Suspect in Hafizabad Gang Rape Case Killed by Accomplices’ Gunfire

In Hafizabad, Punjab, the third suspect involved in the horrific gang rape of a woman in front of her husband has been killed by gunfire from his own accomplices. According to reports, the incident occurred near Panch Pulla when police were patrolling the area. The suspect’s associates opened fire on the police van, during which the accused was fatally struck by his own group’s bullets. Two other suspects had already been killed earlier in separate alleged police encounters.

The incident took place over a month ago in the Mangat Uncha area, where four armed men abducted a couple on their way home. The suspects tied up the husband and took turns raping the woman, while one of them filmed the assault. The horrific crime resurfaced after the gang uploaded the video to social media, prompting the husband to finally lodge an FIR. Since then, police have been pursuing the suspects, resulting in the deaths of three during raids and encounters.

Police revealed that during raids to arrest the remaining fugitives, suspects repeatedly opened fire on law enforcement. One suspect, Laeeq alias Laeeqi, was killed two days earlier in a similar encounter. Another, Khawar, was also fatally shot by his own accomplices during a police operation. Law enforcement agencies have confirmed that raids continue in search of the remaining fugitives.

Adding to the disturbing revelations, investigations exposed that certain police officials accepted Rs140,000 in bribes to suppress the case initially. Acting on the orders of DPO Atif Nazir, ASI Kashif Mahmood and Inspector Legal Muneeb Liaqat (who is also a relative of one of the suspects) were suspended, arrested, and are now facing legal action under FIR No. 490/25. The case has shaken Hafizabad and led to public rallies in support of the Counter-Terrorism Department’s operations against the culprits.
